Angela Vonda Suriano

1938 - 2023

OBITUARY Devoted Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Angela was born at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx on December 7th, 1938 to Joseph Costa & Josephine Califano and entered into Heaven on April 17th, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, five siblings, husband, and her three childhood dogs- all named “Peggy”.

Angela graduated from Christopher Columbus H.S., met and married Frank Anthony Suriano on August 2nd, 1958 and set up household first on Hering Ave. and then on Yates Ave. in the Bronx, where they started a family. Their desire for a larger family led them to be involved in foster care and short term care; helping 18 other children. With a growing family, they relocated to Stormville, NY fulfilling their dream.

Angela enjoyed being social and was active in all her children’s lives. She was a Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She served on the PTA where she ran the school newsletter. In later years she joined the Red Hat Society where she along with the other women enjoyed hosting the numerous functions for other members. Angela enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing her love of food with others.

At the age of 47, Angela decided to pursue a career in Nursing and attended Dutchess Community College. She did her clinicals at Hudson Valley Psychiatric Center, and graduated at age 50 with an R.N. Degree. She worked at Westchester and Putnam Hospitals, and ended her career at Wingate at Dutchess, Fishkill, retiring to San Diego, California with her husband Frank until he passed in 2011. Angela returned to Hudson Valley in 2017 where she lived out her remaining years, and recently she entered into Hospice and passed at home peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her oldest daughter Theresa Schara and her children, Maily, Jason, Sophia, and Joey. Her daughter Angela Maher and her son Brandon. Her son Edward Suriano and his children Frankie, Addie, and Adian. Her great grandchildren Tino, Angel Noel, AJ, Angela, Natalia, Matthew, Joey, Damien & Dante, Mayan & Zane, and many nieces and nephews.


Angela cared for many children whom she raised into adulthood. Her extended family include Kimberly and her daughter Paige; Carolyn and her children Alex, Charlie, and Georgie; and her son Eric and his children Collyn and Drea whom she loved with all her heart. Angela’s legacy will be remembered fondly as she joins the love of her life, her husband Frank in Heaven.

Arrangements were entrusted to Delehanty Funeral Home, Wappingers Falls, NY.
