OBITUARY
Armand Henry Alfonso passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 3, 2024, in Tucson, AZ. Born on January 4, 1928, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Enrico and Giuseppina (Capitolo) Alfonso. Armand was a lifelong resident of Wappingers Falls, NY. During World War II, Armand proudly served in the Army, initially stationed at Fort Lewis and later in the Philippines. Upon returning to Wappingers Falls, he embarked on a distinguished 40-year career at the Texaco Research Center, followed by 27 years of dedicated service in code enforcement for the Village of Wappingers. Armand was a pillar of the community, actively participating in the Knights of Columbus and the SW Johnson Fire Company. He found joy in carpentry, gardening, and building model airplanes. In 1951, Armand married the love of his life, Catherine Masciola, a fellow Wappingers Falls resident. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with five children, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many beloved nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his wife Catherine, his son Rick, and his son-in-law Rich, Armand is survived by his children Rob (Kim), daughter-in-law Vera, Denise, Susan (Larry), and Tom (Nancy), along with his large extended family. He is remembered for his piety, sense of humor, storytelling, and his love of idioms, Kit Kats, and tomatoes. Armand’s life was a testament to the importance of family, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire and guide his family for generations. A funeral mass will be held on September 12, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church, Wappingers Falls, NY@10 AM, followed by gravesite services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sage Arizona Hospice at sagefoc.com, location Pima County (Tucson).

I have many good memories of spending time at the Alfonso home while I was growing up on Downey Avenue in the 60s and early 70s. Mander was always working on some project around his house or somewhere else, he seemed to be in constant motion, I don't think I ever saw him sitting whenever I was there. I was always impressed by his calm demeanor and his patience with everything that was happening around him. He was also a good listener and encouraged me to go back to school to finish my college education, it was a big decision he helped me make. He will be missed very much by all the family. He was a special person with living in Michigan. We didn't get to see him as much as we would have liked!
