In 1949 Charlotte and Gerald were married and settled in Smithville Flats, NY where they built their dream home and raised their three children. Char was first and foremost devoted to her family. She loved them all very much and they brought great joy to her life. A teacher at heart, she was always involved in helping children. As the elementary librarian in Greene, NY she fostered a love for books and reading. Char was a Sunday school teacher in Greene for several years as well as a Girl Scout leader. She especially enjoyed her time as swimming instructor at Echo Lake and is fondly remembered by her former students. Char had many interests and led an active life. She enjoyed swimming, skiing, boating on the Hudson, travelling, birding, antiquing, family gatherings and of course living at the “Hideaway”. Char cherished her memories of Greene, Echo Lake and the Flanagan family. Camping at a Cook Park in Greene helped keep her in touch and provided many “walks down Memory Lane”. But above all was her love of family. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hudson Valley Hospice for all their support and care during the past 5 months.
