OBITUARY:
David Arthur Matthews, devoted father and beloved son and sibling passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026 surround by his son and his two brothers.
Born in Yonkers, NY, Dave was the son of Jo Anne (Corso) and Peter Matthews. His father being a career Marine, David grew up in many different locations between Yonkers and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, but always considered New York home. David earned his bachelor’s degree at SUNY New Paltz where he discovered his love for cooking and was a chef in several restaurants in Dutchess and Westchester counties. With the birth of his son Jeremy, David gave up the crazy hours of a restaurant chef seeking a more regular schedule and became the head cook at Indian Point power plant. He worked there until 2012 when a car accident would no longer allow him to remain on his feet for long periods of time and ended his working career as an insurance agent for Combined Insurance.
Dave will be remembered for all the great meals he cooked for friends and family, for his devotion to his son and to his cats, his generosity to family and friends as well as being a fan of comic books and all things Star Wars.
Dave is survived my his son, Jeremy, his mother Jo Anne, his sisters Elizabeth and Elaine, and his brothers Peter and Michael.
He was preceded in death earlier this year by his father, Peter Sr.
Dave will be fondly remembered by family, friends and all who have tasted his cooking!
At the request of his family, David will have a private interment. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the DELEHANTY FUNERAL HOME, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York. To offer a message of condolence or share a fond memory, please visit: www.DelehantyFuneral.com

Liz, my heart is so broken for you and your family as you navigate this deeply painful loss of your brother David. We are praying for you all. Love, Tracy & Kiki McDaniel
Please accept my sincere condolences. I hope that fond memories of David bring peace. I am a friend of Jayne's. She and David came to my house for parties and BBQ's. I have special memories of those times. I have not seen Jeremy since his high school graduation. I hope that you are doing well Jeremy.
Sincerely,
Peg Donohue
I am so very sorry to hear of this and so very sorry for your loss. My prayers to the entire Matthew's family.
It all started with David and I playing on the Eagles on Camp LeJeune in (I believe) 1972. We weren't really great friends on base. But, when both of our families moved off base and wound up in the same neighborhood and relatively on the same street, we became great friends. And it was the beginning of a relationship with one of the most wonderful families I've ever known. I have so many fond memories of David and all of you. My heart goes out to you all. Rest in peace David.
Call Elaine. We're so sorry to hear of his passing. Just know our thoughts and prayers are with you, All our love, Scott and Brooke
