OBITUARY
Donna M. O’Neill, 86, of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away on January 27th from complications due to heart disease.
Donna was born in Beacon, NY on April 15, 1936 to Westwood and Harriett Kittredge Leek. On July 22, 1956, Donna married James O’Neill in St. John’s Church, Beacon, NY.
Donna worked for many years as a volunteer at the Second Hand Rose in Poughkeepsie, NY, and was an active member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Born during the depression, Donna learned at an early age not to waste anything unless it was completely consumed…notably demonstrated by a 30-year old can of Oregano found in the spice cabinet! Donna was a talented seamstress who easily made everything from clothing for her children, outfits for any occasion, and leather vests, to window treatments and furniture reupholstery. She enjoyed camping trips with family and “the gang,” crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. Donna had a strong sense of humor, easy laugh, and liked to convey her thoughts at times with a simple “eye roll,” “it is what it is,” or “whatever!!” She was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Donna is predeceased by her parents, Westwood and Harriett Leek, her husband, James O’Neill, her sister, Doris Dedrick, and her brother, Walter Leek. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Colabella, her four children, Patrick O’Neill and his wife Kathryn of Wappingers Falls, Thomas O’Neill and his wife Sheila, of Poughkeepsie, Peggy Frace and her husband, PJ of Hudson Falls, NY, and Kathleen Nowers and her husband, Mark, of Clifton, VA; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Meghan, Sarah, Ryan, Lauren, Callie, Sean, and great grandchildren, Brianna, Aaliyah, and Joshua.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 3:00-7:00pm at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10:00am at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, 2381 New Hackensack Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY and burial will follow at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or charity of your choice.
