OBITUARY

Beacon, NY…

Elaine Gay Jaycox Baller, age 79, passed away peacefully December 18, 2020 at Wingate Beacon Nursing Home, after several years of declining health.

Elaine was born on May 25, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, NY to Claude and Alice (Hummel) Jaycox. After graduating from Wappingers Central School in 1959, she went to work for the Dutchess County Health Dept. In June of 1967, she married Janos (John) Baller, from Budapest, Hungary. John and Elaine resided in the Village of Wappingers Falls, where they raised their children Melinda and Eric.

Elaine grew up in the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls and was an active member there for many years. Elaine loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed her involvement with the local Women’s Home Bureau, canning with her mom Alice and Aunt Dar, baking zucchini bread, making jelly, jams, spaghetti sauce and applesauce, her annual vegetable garden, listening to old music, and any opportunity to sing.

After staying at home with her children, Elaine later worked in the office at the Mid-Hudson Consultation Center and then for 10 years at Grinnell Library in the Village of Wappingers Falls. She loved serving the patrons and made many friends there. Elaine loved giving back to others and was a member of a small women’s group who sang for a few local nursing homes.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 53 years, Janos; her daughter, Melinda Baller and her husband, Michael Polce of Rocky Hill, CT; her son and his wife, Eric and Cristi Baller and their two children, Elaine’s beloved grandchildren, Emily and Owen Baller of Poughkeepsie; her twin sister, Linda Miller, of Glenmont, NY; as well several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sally McClean.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at a later date.
