Ellen L. McSpedon
1957 - 2026

OBITUARY:
Ellen Louise (White) McSpedon passed away unexpectedly, Friday October 2, 2026 at Vassar Hospital, with her children by her side. After beating cancer earlier this year, a ruptured aortic dissection led her back to her husband and family in heaven. As her daughter might say, she died of “a broken heart” at age 69. She was born May 8, 1957 in Manhattan NY, grew up Glenham NY, graduating from Beacon High School. After marrying her beloved husband George on June 16, 1979, she spent the last 42 years in Wappingers Falls NY, where they raised their family. Ellen was predeceased last year by her husband of 46 years, George Kenneth McSpedon (July 2025), sister Deborah Graf (Sept. 2013), father John “Patrick” White (March 2010) and mother Minnie (Boehm) White (Sept. 2019). She is survived by their two daughters, Kelly McSpedon and Wendy McSpedon Hildebrandt (Jason Hildebrandt) of Wappingers Falls NY; Step-sons: Philip McSpedon (Debbie Moore), George Decker McSpedon (Rebecca Andersen), and Michael McSpedon. Her Grandchildren: Brennan & Avery Avila; Philip Jr, & Jake McSpedon; Matthew & Hannah McSpedon; Finley, Riley & Cooper McSpedon; Her brother Patrick White (Tootsie) of Savannah GA and uncle Hank Boehm (Janet) Conway SC. Ellen was a caregiver her whole life, always putting others first. While taking care of her children, grandchildren and elderly parents, she spent many years working as a monitor for Wappingers Central School District and always supported and helped with her husband’s business, Du-Put Construction. While many knew her as “Mrs. M.” or “Mrs. Du-Put”, she was much deeper than that. An animal lover that couldn’t turn away a lost dog, a chipmunk with a broken leg, or a pigeon that was hit by a passing car. Her “green thumb” filled their home and gardens with greenery and color. Her home- cooked meals and warm, fresh-baked treats were her way of taking care of everyone. No one ever left her kitchen hungry, and her family always had full bellies and full hearts. Whether you needed a place to stay, were looking for advice or just needed an ear to listen, she always made herself available. Even if it meant staying up until 2am, she would just make a pot of tea and put the coffee pot on. Her door was always open. A truly beautiful soul inside and out. Her Family will gather with Friends to remember & celebrate her Life on Wednesday, October 21st from 5-8PM. Interment will be private at the discretion and convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial donations to be made to either the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie NY 12601 or to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011. To offer a message of condolence or share a fond memory, please visit: www.DelehantyFuneral.com
