OBITUARY:
Franklyn F. Richey, a longtime resident of Village of Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully at home with his family on July 7, 2026; at the age of 80. He was born in Yonkers, NY on January 15, 1946, son of the late Franklyn & June (Karst) Richey.
Franklyn proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era from 1965 to 1970, until his honorable discharge. He was a former member of the Wappingers Falls VFW Post 5913.
On July 30, 1966 in Mahopac, NY, he married Brenda S. Carney, who survives him at home.
Franklyn worked as an iron worker for Metro-North Railroad for 30-years, until he retired.
Franklyn was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed coaching his three sons when they played youth sports such as basketball, baseball and football. He was a huge San Francisco Giants fan, from the days when they were in New York; he was also a fan of the Chicago Bears. Most importantly and aside from sports, he loved his family, particularly his granddaughters.
Along with his beloved wife of 59-years Brenda Richey, Franklyn is survived by his three sons: Franklin Richey Jr and his wife Carole ; John Richey ; Stephen Richey and his wife Rosanne Richey. His three granddaughters Daycia Ponder, Ava Richey and Paige Richey, whom he adored and cherished dearly. He is also survived by his twin-sister Jacklyn Robbins; his nephews Billy, Jamie (Kate), and niece Mary Beth; and can’t forget his beloved dog ‘Daisy’.
Along with his parents, Franklyn was predeceased by his brother Allyn Richey.
His Family will gather with Friends to remember and celebrate on Saturday August 8th, 2026 from 9-11am at DELEHANTY FUNERAL HOME, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, where a service will be offered. Interment will immediate follow to the Veterans Section of the Wappingers Falls Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls, where Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard at 12PM.

I am very sorry to hear of Frankie’s passing. Frankie and I played hours of basketball together for LHS. He was a slick guard utilizing his skills to handle a basketball. Frankie and his sister, Jackie, were both classmates of mine in several classes. We graduated together in the Lakeland High School class of 1963. Go Hornets! Rest in peace, Frankie.
Frank was a good friend from the Lakeland High School Class of '63 and a great athlete for the Hornets over the years, winning many close games. He will be sorely missed with his sense of humor and friendliness.
My condolences to Brenda and the family and hope to see many LHS '63 Grads at the funeral.
