OBITUARY
Harry Scrivani of Poughkeepsie, NY died on November 30th, 2024 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 94. He lived at Woodside Manor; Poughkeepsie for the last 3.5 years, and leaves behind many friends. Since 1962, Harry lived in Red Oaks Mill and was very active with the community. He was a volunteer of the Red Oaks Mill Firehouse, enjoyed working the pancake breakfasts and playing Santa through the neighborhood from the back of the firetruck at Christmas time. He was a member with the Knights of Columbus in Wappingers Falls and major contributor to the Venison Dinner each year. He also was a member of the Mid-Hudson Coin Club and an avid bowler in his earlier days and he served the Republican Party as a Town of Poughkeepsie committee member for many years. He belonged to the Senior Group at St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. His favorite activity was playing pinochle at the Senior Center, Town of Poughkeepsie and teaching new members how to play. He was a big fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants and watched all of their games. Harry loved the beach and to travel; having visited many countries throughout the world, but his favorite place was on the New Jersey shoreline. He loved life and his family. Harry was born in Riverside Drive, Manhattan, NY on June 25, 1930, the son of Harry Scrivani Sr. and Margaret McKeown Oakes. He was married for 62 years to the late Evelyn Scrivani who predeceased him on January 15, 2015. They were married in Port Jervis June 7, 1952. He spent his childhood in Port Jervis, NY and graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1949. Harry worked his entire career for the newspaper starting out of school with The Times Herald in Middletown, transferring to The News Herald in Johnson City NY, and finally The Poughkeepsie Journal in 1962 where he moved his young family to Poughkeepsie and made his home here. He was the manager of the composing room for The Poughkeepsie Journal until his retirement in 1995. He is survived by his two daughters, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lisa Conger and her husband Charles, of Millbrook NY, Granddaughter Hailey Conger, of Millbrook NY/London UK. Linda Foehl and her husband John, of Summerville, SC; Grandson, Lt Colonel Patrick Foehl (Sharon) of Albany GA, great-grandchildren Luke, Noah, & Sarah. Granddaughter Meghan Dale (Patrick) of Fayetteville AR, and great-grandchild Clara, He was pre-deceased by his daughter Laura Scrivani of Wappinger Falls, NY in March 2024. The family would like to give special thanks to dedicated and gentle aids who took great care of him at the Manor. Many thanks to Hospice, their nurses and caregivers that made his final days peaceful and with grace. Calling hours will be at Delahanty Funeral Home, Wappinger Falls, NY from 4-6pm, December 5th, 2024. Burial services will private with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County.
