OBITUARY

Hector ‘Papi’ Alvarez, a beloved father, brother, and loved by many. He was a longtime resident of Newburgh, NY and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025 at Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Beacon, New York; at the age of 79. He was born Hector Alvarez Mercado on December 27, 1945, in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. He was the son of the late Gregorio Alvarez Vega and Maria Mercado Lopez. He was predeceased by his older brothers, Carlos, Luis, Alfredo, Jaime and his older sister Mirriam. Hector is survived his younger sister Maria Alvarez Roman. Hector is survived by his daughters: Monserate Bayron; Susanne Alvarez Figueroa & husband Jose Figueroa Cruz; Maria Isa Alvarez & Fiancé, Elena Alvarez; Samantha Fipps & husband Aaron Fipps Sr; Frances “Laly” Alvarez Heath & husband Charles Heath; his only son Hector Alvarez Jr & partner Roxana. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He moved from Puerto Rico to New York as a teen with his older brothers. He drove taxi for different taxi companies in Newburgh for many years. In between a busy life, Hector enjoyed playing baseball in Newburgh’s Leagues in his free time. He was a hard-worker, with a goal to be the best provider for his family, and helping any person who was in need. Hector will be remembered for his genuine love for his family, and of course his insane love for baseball. His was an avid NY Yankees fan. Papi will truly be missed by Many.
