OBITUARY

Henry Donohue Sr.- Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024. Henry was 81 years old. He was born on August 21, 1942, to the late John and Drucilla Donohue in the Bronx, NY. As a young man one of Henry's interests was boxing. He was extremely proud of the match he fought and won with a knockout punch in the Golden Gloves. The photo of the match was featured on the cover of the Daily News. From a young age he loved to race pigeons he stared racing as a teenager and continued throughout his life only stopping in recent years. Henry was a role model to the neighborhood kids both as a coach for the East Fishkill Boxing Team and Little League. He loved to fish every chance he had, he would load up his kids, the neighborhood kids and/or his grandchildren in his car and take them fishing. When his children were younger you could count on him to hold a Wiffle Ball match for all the kids in his driveway. Henry loved baseball and was a huge New York Yankee fan. Henry was a member of the Jaycees and the Republican Committee. He accomplished many things throughout his life, but his greatest accomplishment was when he became a New York City Police Officer. He was not only proud but also felt privileged to be able to serve the great City of New York. Henry was married to the love of his life Paulette Kershaw on August 19, 1964. He was predeceased by his wife Paulette in 2013. Henry is survived by his daughter Beth Schinella and husband Kevin, his son Henry Donohue Jr. and wife Maryellen, his son Daniel Donohue and wife Mocha Black. He has many grandchildren whom he loved and was proud of including Sara Gumaer and fiancé Earl Stegner, Donald Prusakowski and fiancé Alexandra Schimmel, Chase Schinella, Joseph Schinella, Brittany Kimball and husband Daniel, Bryan Donohue, Caitlyn Smith and husband Nate, and Lindsey Shibley. Henry was blessed with thirteen beautiful great grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590, on Wednesday, February 28th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Henry's family would like to thank Tonya, Amorosia, Big Mike, Jenny, Susan, Meaghan, Kirby and Anthony for all the love and care they showed him over this past year. Our family worked extremely hard to care for Dad/Grandpa, but we couldn't have made it through all this with out your love and support. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hudson Valley Hospice to help Henry's family thank them for the exceptional love and care they showed him.
