OBITUARY

James R. Sackelos, a longtime Wappingers Falls resident originally raised in the quiet hamlet of New Hamburgh, passed away peacefully at his home on August 26, 2025; at the age of 68 years old. He was born on August 2, 1957 in Poughkeepsie, NY, son of the late Joseph & Lois (Hamilton) Sackelos. James attended Wappinger Central Schools, and graduated of Roy C. Ketcham High School, class of 1976.


Jimmy was a member of the New Hamburg Fire Department, for many years; always enjoyed the fellowship. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he enjoyed fishing, and simple pleasures like BBQs with family and friends. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden, he loved to watch things grow.


Jim worked as a heavy equipment operator and welder for several local construction companies, particularly Trap Rock in the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY, and recently the Ziffs Family Estate in Pawling, NY, until retiring.


On April 20, 2002, he married the love of his life, Colleen Lyons, in St. Thomas US Virgin Islands; she survives him at home.


Along with his loving wife of 23-years, Colleen Sackelos, James is survived by his sister and brother: Joy (Eric) Sarracino and Joseph C. (Maria) Sackelos Jr; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and  great-nieces & great-nephews.

Along with his parents, James was predeceased by his nephew and Godson, Michael Brogan, and his beloved dog ‘Dallas’.


His Family will receive Friends on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 4-7PM at the DELEHANTY FUNERAL HOME, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10am, Thursday, September 4 at St. Mary’s Church 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
