Jane Patricia Le Roy

1923 - 2021

OBITUARY

Jane Patricia (Costello) Le Roy passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of her sister Elizabeth Costello and niece Patricia MacNamee on November 15, 2021.

Jane was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on September 24, 1923 to James and Anna (Hawthorne) Costello. She lived and attended elementary school in Poughkeepsie until her family moved to New Hamburg, NY, where she graduated from Wappingers High School in 1942. After graduation, she worked in the garment industry in Beacon, NY, traveling daily by train from New Hamburg.

In 1948 she met World War II Navy veteran Charles Le Roy of Wappingers Falls through her brother John. Jane and Charlie were married on April 24, 1949 at Saint Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. They celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to Charlie’s passing in October, 1999. Jane and Charlie resided on Mill Street in Wappingers Falls until his recall to active duty during the Korean War. Jane and their 2 sons stayed at the Costello home in New Hamburg while Charlie was at sea. Upon his return in 1952 they purchased a home on Dorothy Heights in Wappingers, where Jane resided for 63 years. In 2016 Jane moved down the street to reside with her sister Elizabeth.

Jane played field hockey in high school and was an avid bowler for many decades. She and Charlie loved to dance and were the life of every party. After raising their two sons, Jane and Charlie enjoyed traveling, visiting their son Charlie’s Vermont farm, and spending time with their dear friends Nick and Marion Cafaro in Schroon Lake, NY. They enjoyed cruises to Jamaica, and spent a few winters in Florida, where Charlie played golf. They were always available and willing to drive their friends around. After Charlie’s passing, Jane enjoyed playing Bingo at the Wappingers Senior Center with her sister Elizabeth and going on trips with the Seniors group. Jane was an avid reader and liked doing crossword puzzles. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jane is survived by her sister Elizabeth Costello; sons Charles (Karen) of Block Island, RI and James (Loretta) of Palm Coast, Florida. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Michael (Heather), Rachel (Josh), Daniel (Jolly), James (Lisa) and Joseph (Chelsea); 7 great-grandchildren: Nahom, Lula, Samia, Solomon, Gavin, Ryan and Liam Le Roy, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 2 step-grandsons, 8 step great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie; parents Anna and James; bothers James and John; and sister Margaret. Another sister, Frances, died in infancy.

As per Jane’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls on Thursday, November 18, at 10:00, followed by burial alongside her husband Charlie in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a gift in her memory to Hospice or your favorite charity. The family wishes to thank Hospice, her caregivers sister Elizabeth, niece Patricia MacNamee, grandson Joseph Le Roy, and Helga Giusti, Michael Van Voorhis, and Laurie Traver, all of whom made it possible for Jane to have her wish to peacefully pass away at home.
