1956 - 2021

OBITUARY

Janine Dhalla passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on November 7th 2021, after a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was 65 years old. Born in Beacon, NY on August 17th 1956, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Emily (Weinsheimer) Gervais. She worked hard throughout her life to provide for her family. She enjoyed many hobbies, especially scavenger hunts with her grandson. Janine raised her three children in Wappingers Falls, NY, however, she was a mother-figure to many others, often referred to as “Momma Dukes.”

She is survived by her three children, Zarah Dhalla (Jeff Moro) of Rhinebeck, Shafic Dhalla (Diana Edwards-Dhalla) of Fishkill, Trevor Dhalla (Serena Liccardi) and her greatest gift of all, her much beloved grandson, Landon Dhalla of Wappingers Falls. In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings Denise Paolilli, Marc Gervais, Lisa Gervais, Andrea Gervais and sister-in-law Jeanette Chang, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her brother Peter Chang of Texas, cousinEthel Mae of Alabama, and nephew Deion Snell of North Carolina, also predeceased her.

Janine was one of a kind, she loved all and was loved by all. She has always done for others, even if it meant she went without. There is no way to illustrate Janine, she was an Angel on Earth, and she has now gained her wings. She had an affect on so many in Dutchess County and she will forever be missed. Let us live in her spirit.

There is and never will be another person like Janine. Many seem to feel the same way. I am sad about this news. Yet I know Janine will always be with all of us. As I go on by her example.

I met her on my return back to the Hudson Valley. After close to twenty years of being away in Florida. It was a cold winter night in early January. Crazy freezing cold. I ran into her where she worked. Her smile. She said just relax. I am here. Are you okay? She had a blanket in her car. She came back and gave it to me. A really bad snow storm. I was from Florida. She was so…

I am so sorry to learn of your mom's passing, Zarah. It was always nice running into her during my visits back to the village. She always had a kind word or warm memory to share. I remember her being involved with all kinds of things during our Evans days. You and your brothers are very much in my thoughts.
