OBITUARY
Wappinger, NY...Joan T. Mathers, 79, a lifelong resident of Wappinger, died on October 28,2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Born on June 13,1942 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Bridget Gertrude Tomlinson. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Patricia DeRonda. She was a graduate of Wappingers Central High School and Albany Business College.
She married her beloved husband, Frank Mathers, on April 8,1972 at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. Together, they raised their family and celebrated more than 38 years of marriage before Frank passed away in 2010.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Colleen Pillus and husband Chuck of Poughkeepsie; and Elaine Mathers of Wappinger as well as her adored granddaughters, Megan Pillus and Bridgit Foley.
Joan spent her years making a wonderful home for her family. She volunteered in her children’s schools and served in the New Hackensack Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where her husband volunteered for many years.
She was blessed with wonderful family, friends, and neighbors and she could always be counted for a good chat and laughter. Her circle of friends was ever-growing, with many from her school days as well as those met along the way in life including her “Goddesses” friends, with whom she enjoyed so much fun and laughter over coffee and lunches.
She was loved by all who met her with her quick smile, kind heart, and warm, friendly spirit. She will be greatly missed.
Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Fishkill for more than 40 years, but also kept St. Mary’s Church in Wappinger Falls in her heart, having made all of her sacraments there.
Calling hours will be from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, November 3rd at the Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 4th at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls, to be followed by her burial at the parish cemetery.
