OBITUARY
Joanne Burke who was 74 years old, passed away peacefully in her home in Wappingers Falls, NY, on January 12, 2024, after a well-fought battle against ALS. Joanne was born on December 7, 1949, to John and Gina (Mema) Paolilli in Poughkeepsie, NY. She graduated Roy C Ketcham High School in 1968. She attended grade school at St. Mary’s School in Wappingers Falls, NY, where she eventually would spend 20 years as a lunch monitor. She had made many close relationships and memories with the families she met while at the school she and her children attended. Joanne loved playing cards and reading. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and hosting family dinners. On September 20, 1969, in Wappingers Falls, NY; she married Thomas J. Burke Sr., the love of her life and her very best friend. Together they would build the life they always dreamed of. Thomas was by her side for over 54 years and together they were blessed with four children. Joanne took pride in making sure her husband and family were always taken care of. While she loved her hometown, she and Thomas always dreamt of a beach home where they could spend their retired years together. In 2012, they made their dreams come true and moved to Holden Beach, NC. She loved sitting on the beach with her daughter, Donna and best friend Becky. She enjoyed bowling and card nights with friends and taking care of her various plants. She would get so excited when her children and grandchildren would come to visit her at the beach. She truly enjoyed having everyone in her happy place. Joanne adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would make many trips to Wappingers throughout the years to celebrate their birthdays, attend dance recitals, and enjoy concerts and endless sporting events. Joanne is survived by her husband, Thomas J Burke Sr. Their children, Donna Burke, Thomas J. Burke Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, Christopher Burke and his wife, Alethea and Kimberly Cservak. Her grandchildren: Brittany, Jesse, Brian, Karly, Kaitlyn and Kelsey as well as a loving great grandmother to Aubrey and McKenzie. Her Aunt Mary Cardascia, whom was like a second mother to her, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Gina (Mema) Paolilli, and her in-laws Joseph (Sparky) and Ruth Burke. Joanne’s absence will be felt year-round, but especially during the holidays, trips to the beach, and birthday dinners. Her beautiful smile and loving heart will be remembered by all who knew her. Calling hours will be held at Delehanty Funeral Home on Wed. January 17th 2:00 - 4:00pm & 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary's Church on Thurs. January 18th 10:00am followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls, NY.
