John D. Carbone

1956 - 2025

OBITUARY

John D. Carbone, a longtime resident of Monroe, New York, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at the Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park, at the age of 69. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 9, 1956, John grew up in West Warwick, Rhode Island and was a graduate of West Warwick High School. He was the son of the late Americo John & Janis (Gizzarelli) Carbone. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of more than 35 years, Janice Carbone, in 2019. His absolute devotion to Janice was extraordinary, especially throughout several years of her serious illness. John worked as a heavy equipment operating engineer and proudly served as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 825 from Springfield, NJ, for over 40-years until his retirement. He thrived on the most difficult and nuanced projects, including major undertakings at West Point Military Academy and others across New York and New Jersey. Known for his precision skill and steady hand, John was considered one of the best operating engineers in the region and made lifelong friends throughout the construction industry. A gifted builder and tireless tinkerer, John could never resist improving or inventing. He rebuilt and modified countless car engines, designed creative solutions no one else had thought of, and at one point immersed himself in the work of Nikola Tesla. Through self-study, he constructed several large Tesla coils—taking great delight in producing eight-foot lightning bolts. He also had a passion for cooking, especially Italian food, with meatball and sausage dishes as his specialty. John is survived by his two sisters: Judith Carbone Bruner and her husband Nathan of San Diego, CA, and JoAnn O’Grady and Michael O’Grady of West Warwick, RI. He is also survived by his three nephews: Jacob Bruner, Lucas Bruner and Sean O’Grady. John will be remembered for his clever sense of humor, his inventive spirit and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. Arrangements were entrusted to the DELEHANTY FUNERAL HOME, 64 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York. Per the family’s wishes, a private interment will take place at a later date in Rhode Island. To offer his family a condolence or share a fond memory, please visit: www.DelehantyFuneral.com
