John J. Lowney

1935 - 2023

OBITUARY

John J. Lowney passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2023. He was 87 years old. John was born in the Village of Wappingers Falls on September 11, 1935, to the late Cornelius and Margaret Lowney. He married Louise Manfredo Lowney, at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers on September 3, 1966. They were married almost 57 years. He graduated from St. Mary’s School in Wappingers Falls in 1949. In 1953 he graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Newburgh. He later graduated from Dutchess Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science on June 4, 1972. He spent eight years in the United States Navy Reserves.


Upon graduation he was employed at Texaco Research Center where he worked for 15 years. He then was employed by IBM Corporation in East Fishkill until he retired in 1996. He also worked for Cogar and Emagin Corporations.


He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers where he enjoyed attending daily mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wappingers Falls, and a member of the Third Order of Franciscans at Mt. Alvernia. He was proud of his Irish heritage and liked a cold pint of Guinness. He was a Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed his visit to Boston to tour the stadium and watch the Red Sox beat the NY Yankees. He also loved his summers visiting the shore, whether to New Jersey or Cape Cod.


Most of all he loved being with his granddaughters: Jillian Biasotti, Lindsey Biasotti, and June Lowney. He enjoyed going to their games, dance recitals, and being with them on vacation. They loved and will miss their “Pop Pop”


He is also survived by his children: daughter Lori Biasotti (Jason), and sons Jeffrey Lowney and Corey Lowney (Karen). He was pre-deceased by his son John Lowney, Jr. He is also pre-deceased by brothers Cornelius (Sonny) Lowney, Jr. and Leo Lowney and his wife Nancy. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday May 25, 2023, from 4-7 PM at Delehanty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church 10AM, Friday May 26, 2023. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
