John "Jack" Perusse

1939 - 2023

OBITUARY

John “Jack” Perusse of New Hamburg, NY passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023. He was 83 years old.

Jack was born on November 13, 1939 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Perusse. He married his wife Patricia “Patty” on January 25, 1964; they shared 59 years of happy memories.

For many years, Jack worked at Tilcon “Traprock” in Wappingers Falls, taking on many roles throughout his time there. His grandchildren affectionately called his truck a “Traprock truck” due to the dust covering the length of the vehicle after a hard day’s work. After his retirement from Tilcon, Jack worked as a crossing guard at Sheafe Road Elementary, where he was loved by many. For over 50 years, Jack was a volunteer firefighter at New Hamburg Fire Department, spending time in various leadership roles, including chief, and driving the fire engine to many calls. When he heard a call come through his pager, he always said “gotta go!” He was passionate about helping his community through the fire house.

In addition to his wife Patty, Jack is survived by his daughter Rondi and son-in-law Ed Ludwig of New Hamburg; grandchildren Amanda (Scott) Ludwig of Bethel, CT, Gabrielle Ludwig of New Hamburg, NY, Evan

(Selah) Blood of Lake Mary, FL, Brook (Chris) Blood of Schenectady, NY and Eric Blood of Lake Mary, FL; great grandson Kaden Blood; brother James and Frank. Jack is predeceased by his daughter Lynn Blood, and his sisters Teresa, Mary, Amelia “Snooky,” and Jeanine.

Known affectionately as “Pop,” to his grandchildren, he spent many summers driving them on a wagon attached to the back of his John Deer tractor, which they enjoyed immensely. He vacationed many summers at the Jersey Shore, and could be found tinkering with pretty much anything in the garage, but especially the tractor. Jack made every effort to attend his grandchildren's sporting events, and was known to bring his binoculars to crew races, camcorder to dance recitals, and many claps on the soccer and lacrosse fields.

Jack will be missed by many. His family would like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice for being a great support during Jack’s final weeks.

There will be no visitation.
