1951 - 2022
John (Jackie) McCourt, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away from Covid-19 on January 6, 2022, at the age of 70. He was born on December 15, 1951 in Bronx, New York to James and Frances (McGovern) McCourt and was the youngest of 7 children. He attended St. Helena High School and remained close with his childhood friends throughout his life. After marrying his first wife and having his first child, John moved his family to Wappinger Falls, New York where he began his lifetime career in the Heating and Cooling industry. John married his second wife, Patricia (Benjamin) McCourt in 2009 soon after they had relocated to North Carolina and, subsequently, South Carolina. Upon his wife’s passing in 2019, John returned to live with family in Dutchess County, NY, where he resided until his death.
John was a music lover and was known to play his Doo-wop music all day long. His love of sports began as a child when he and his friends would sit on rooftops near Yankee Stadium to watch the Yankees play. However, John’s pride and joy was his black 1964 Chevy Chevelle with fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. He was a member of the Sun Coast Cruisers in North Carolina and the time he spent at cruise-ins, fundraising and simply gathering with club members were some of the highlights of his life.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin McCourt and Heather Burton of Poughkeepsie, NY and daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Dan Porter of Dover, New Hampshire. He has 3 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren, Bridget and Catherine McCourt, Kaelin Porter and Alex, Claire and Natalie Burton. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Grantham of Greensboro, South Carolina.
