Joseph J. Weiss

1944 - 2024

OBITUARY

Joseph John Weiss (80) of Poughkeepsie, NY died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Joe will forever hold a precious place in all our hearts. He was everything a husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa could be.

Joe was born in Throop, PA on May 11,1944 to John J. Sr. & Marian G. (Warcomski) Weiss, and spent most of his childhood in Scranton and at the family farm in Lake Ariel, where his pranks kept his mother scrambling and his father smiling. Joseph's heart was huge, his smile contagious, and the love he had for his family, friends and fur-babies is something to be admired.

After graduating high school in 1962, Joe attended Johnson School where he studied Machine Shop Practice. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served active duty from 1965-1969, and reserves through 1971, as a Radar Repair Tech. He earned the rank of Sergeant.

In 1968 Joe began his career at IBM in East Fishkill, NY in the machine shop and retired as a computer programmer in 1998. He settled in Poughkeepsie and actively enjoyed many different hobbies. Joe was an avid scuba-diver (cave/wreck). He enjoyed spending time with friends outdoors hiking, camping, and canoeing. Joe also enjoyed league sports of bowling, and pool.

He met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Losee) in 1970 at the YMCA where they shared the same passion for scuba diving. The two married on September 9, 1972, and began their family having two children. He is survived by son, Marc Joseph and his wife Michelle of Ancram, NY; daughter, Jaclyne Marian of Highland, NY; five grandchildren, Shane, Cadence, Justin, Jayden and Joseph Terry aka JT; and great-granddaughter Charlotte.

We will miss his warm hugs, heartfelt conversations, quirky jokes, and his endless support in all we did. He was taken too soon, and so our hearts ache not having had a final goodbye; but we will forever cherish the priceless memories we were each blessed to have with our beloved Joe, Daddy, Papa, Grandpa and Great-grandpa.
