Lucy B. DiMarco

1928 - 2023

OBITUARY

Lucy B. DiMarco passed away peacefully at her home on March 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Lucy was 94 years old. Lucy was born on Dec 4, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late Frank Luciani and Gilda Lupparelli Luciani. She was pre-deceased by her husband John A. DiMarco and her daughter Veronica F. Robinson.

Lucy moved to the village of Wappingers Falls when she was 13 years old. She lived with her Aunt Caroline and Uncle Dominic Bottini. She attended Wappingers schools – she was a gymnast, cheerleader and tap dancer. She married John on Sept 4, 1948, and they raised three daughters: Veronica, Roseann, and Frances.

Lucy was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, the Catholic Daughters of America, and through her daughters’ school years she was an active member of St Mary’s Mother’s Guild. She assisted the school with many CYO activities and class trips.

She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 5913.

Lucy worked for IBM Poughkeepsie for 28 years - in the cafeteria and then later as a Computer Librarian.

She was often seen quick walking around the IBM campus at lunchtime. She enjoyed a session of ice-skating or tap dancing after work. She loved to do ceramics and she made all her daughters Nativity Sets.

Lucy retired in 1990. Her retirement was spent doing all the things she loved – spending time with all her grandchildren, taking care of yardwork at her home, and cooking and baking for all of her family.

Everyone loved her Italian cookies as well as her lasagna and meatballs at all the holidays. She was known for her homemade jellies and jams. Lucy would often pay anyone who helped her around the house with a much-appreciated jar of jelly.

Lucy’s kindness touched many lives.

Lucy is survived by two loving daughters, Roseann (Mike) Goebel and Frances (Doug) Mershimer; seven grandchildren, Brian Wacyk, Bernadette (Marcel) Cekuta, Michael (Brianna Burke) Goebel, Christina (Pete Padilla) Goebel, Jonathon (Stephanie Reid) Mershimer, Nicole and Jessica Mershimer; and ten great-grandchildren, Brianna Wacyk, Austin, Ethan, Gavin, Logan and Mackenzie Cekuta, Gabriel Burke-Goebel and Jordyn, Jayden and Jannessa Ras; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls on Friday March 24 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucy’s name to St. Mary’s Church (11 Clinton St Wappingers Falls, NY 12590) or Hudson Valley Hospice (374 Violet Ave Poughkeepsie, NY 12601).
