Lydia Acevedo

1931 - 2021

OBITUARY

Lydia (Garcia) Acevedo peacefully entered eternal life on November 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 13, 1931 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico to Alida Binet Garcia and Alfonso Garcia and had been the last remaining child of eleven. Having moved from Puerto Rico to New York City at the age of fourteen, she met the love of her life James Acevedo, a United States Army veteran, and they were married on July 1, 1950. The couple moved to New Rochelle, New York for a brief period and then to Mamaroneck, New York. They were married for 49 years until James' death in 1999. Lydia worked for many years as a waitress at WT Grants in New Rochelle and her easy and friendly manner earned her many friends.

Lydia was a devoted mother to her only child and daughter Esther (Acevedo) Siena. They had a bond like no other. Esther was Lydia’s greatest accomplishment and best friend.

Lydia is survived by her daughter Esther and son- in- law, Laurence Siena of Wappingers Falls, her grandson, Michael Siena and his wife Catherine, and her granddaughter, Elise (Siena) Raffaele and her husband John. She also has two great grand daughtersGiulia and Isabella Siena (ages 2 years and 1 month old) and two great grandsons, Jake and Justin Raffaele (ages 8 and 6).

The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She enjoyed nothing more than being with her family while laughing and caring for them. She cherished the time spent together and her guidance, love, and support were appreciated by all. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her source of happiness.

Through all of life’s ups and downs, Lydia maintained a positive outlook on life, was always smiling, and never complained about anyone or anything. She was a loving, warm hearted, compassionate and genuine woman in every sense. If you were blessed enough to have known Lydia, you would have known she was a beautiful woman inside and out with a heart of gold. She will be missed by many.
