OBITUARY
Mary T. Johnson (Sanfilippo), 91, born on April 20, 1931, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022.
A loving Mom, Nana, wife, sister, and friend, she is survived by her 3 children, Patricia Fischer, Susan Brownell, and Joseph A. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Dianne. She was the proud Nana to 3 grandchildren, Zachary Fischer and his wife, Marisa, Hannah Johnson and her fiancé, Tyler Rath, and Jessica King. Mary is also survived by two of her sisters, Doris Dominicis and Phyllis Campala, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In October of 1955, she married the love of her life, her loving husband of 43 years, Joseph A. Johnson Sr., who predeceased her. Mary was also predeceased by brothers Peter J. Sanfilippo Jr., Ronald Sanfilippo, and sisters Patricia Miller and Barbara Cocco.
The eldest of 7 children, Mary was born in Beacon, NY to Peter J. Sanfilippo Sr. and Mary Waichausky, but she spent nearly her entire life as a proud resident of her beloved Village of Wappingers Falls, NY. An ‘Irontown’ woman at her core, she graduated from Wappingers Central High School and was named the best female athlete in her graduating class, later being inducted into the WCSD Thomas D. Macrini Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
Mary found joy in gardening, cooking old family recipes, solving crossword puzzles, watching the NY Mets and classic movies, and listening to Frank Sinatra. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family gathered around the dining room table, always serving a great meal and a sharing a captivating story to go with it.
Throughout the years and in all her roles in life, she touched so many hearts. Outside of being fondly known as Nana to her grandchildren, she was “Nana” to all of her children and grandchildren’s friends, and all of her extended “family.” Her feisty and loving legacy will have a lasting impression on all those whose paths crossed with hers over her lifetime. By request of the family, calling hours are private.

Growing up I spent just as much time in your home as my own. I got my love of plants from Ma Johnson, she gave my first house plant. Later in life I'd often came home from work to find a care package of my favorite meal left on my back porch. I have a lifetime of memories that I will hold dear, I am truly thankful and blessed. She will be missed
There was 10 years between "My Big Sister " Mary and me with 5 siblings between, Pete, Ronnie, Patty, Bobbie and Doris. A very special memory I have is after dinner Mary would sit with us younger ones and teach us songs like Playmate, Mary Had A Little Lamb and Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and finish each one with Bump Diddy Addo Toot Toot!! I'll always treasure these memories and lots, lots more. Love and miss you Mary with all my heart, your "Little Sister" Phyllis
Some of my favorite memories of of my Aunt Mary were running around the house from our grandparents apartment to Big Mary's apartment and back down to Little Mary's. We would sit down for dinner every Sunday. Family is everything especially when there is an unwritten bond. It is truly amazing, the life my Aunt Mary lived: she was truly an inspiration and great with family history. She will be truly missed.
