Michael F. Ranco

1945 - 2023

OBITUARY

With a heavy heart, the family of Michael “Mike” F. Ranco Sr. would like to confirm his passing on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 77. Born on May 5, 1945 to Michael “Mike” P. Ranco and Bonabelle “Bonnie” Smith in Poughkeepsie, NY, he met his future wife, Dawn M. Williams, at just 5 and 3 years old, respectively; they would later marry in 1965.

Mike was a class of ‘65 graduate at Roy C. Ketcham High School where he played football. With a devotion to the arts, Mike was an impassioned trumpet player at an early age and performed in a band called the Torqueys as a high school student.

In 1966, Mike answered a call of service to our country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corp where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served for one combat tour of duty between 1967-1969. He received an honorable discharge in 1970.

Mike was a dedicated Teamsters Local 445 member along with a long tenure at NY Trap Rock-Tillcon. Continuing his call to service, he served his community as a baseball coach in the 70s. A devout Christian, he served with his wife in the Assemblies of God as a youth pastor during the 80s. He served on worship teams and was a musical performer in the church. Mike would later become an ordained minister with his wife in 2014. He ministered at the Curse Breaker Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Tony Rodriguez and Cano Rolon. He loved his Lord with all his heart.

Amongst his faith and hobbies, family was the cornerstone of his life. Mike is survived by his wife, Dawn, of almost 58 years of marriage as well as his children: son Michael F. Ranco Jr. and his partner Larry Kelner, and his daughter Mishelle Ward and her husband Fred Ward Jr.; his grandchildren: Briene Ward, Adam Ward and his wife Julianna Ward, and Coree Ward; his siblings: brother Brian Siegesmund, and his sisters Terry Siegesmund and Maria Ranco; and his cousins: Gary Maynard and his wife Kaye Maynard, and Herbie Maynard and his longtime companion Jayne Mihan. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Janet Rainwater.

His friends and family will miss his warm and jestful spirit; his infectious and irreplaceable laughter; his immeasurable love and protection of those around him; his unwavering devotion to virtue and principles; his kindness and generosity to strangers; and his impassioned and stimulating conversations. He will forever be remembered as our Rambo.
