1936 - 2021

OBITUARY

Wappingers Falls, NY – Ralph Edward Sheehan “Babe” (85) of Beacon, Hughsonville, and Wappingers Falls, passed away on April 15, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 2, 1936 in Beacon, NY to Ralph and Elizabeth Sheehan. Ralph is a retired NYS Corrections Officer.

Ralph had incredible pride for this childhood hometown of Beacon. He attended school there and did a tour at St. Patrick’s High School in Newburgh where he was on the basketball team. We all enjoyed his stories about taking the Ferry back and forth over the Hudson River. He always joked about how he had to race to the Ferry because the Newburgh-Beacon bridge was not built yet. Ralph proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958. He remained state side at the Olathe Air Force Station in Kansas. After his service he returned home and met Jean Herring. They were soon married and made a home in Hughsonville where they were blessed with 5 children. Ralph and Jean opened their home to several foster children through the years, and we are blessed to have Adam Jablonowski still with us. Ralph loved his family, sitting outside at the gazebo at Berkeley Square with his friends and reminiscing of Hughsonville. Music from the oldies was a strong comfort to him.

Survivors include his children and their partners: Karen, Eileen (Raymond), Michael (Nadine), Jeanie (Terry) and Adam, and daughter in-law Joyce. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Joan Sheehan and her children.

Other survivors are his grandchildren: Michelle, Michael, Nicole, John, Sara, Jessica, Caitlin (Jesse), Danielle (Max), Terence, Stephanie, Corey (Kristen), Jodi (Kiernan), Katie and Jean. He is also survived by his beautiful great grandchildren: Emily, Mackenzie, Grayson, Sawyer, Avery, Jameson and Sutton. He is also survived by his “family” at Berkeley Square, these special people helped to brighten his life.

Ralph is predeceased by his wife Jean who passed away in 2002. He is also predeceased by his brother Robert, his son Ralph and his best buddy Ed Camp.

The family would like to give thanks to the Hudson Valley Heart Center, Dr. Julie Ling, Robin, Erin and Dr. Varanasi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Jude’s (www.stjude.org)

So very sorry to hear about the death of a great man, my Uncle Ralph. Have so many memories of him but one sticks out so vividly right now. I must have been only 6, 7 or 8 and it was his birthday gift to me of a children's size Yankee uniform with #9 on it, the number of Roger Maris, my favorite player at the time. I will never forget it as I must have slept in it every night and wore it out before I outgrew it. Just one small sample of how thoughtful of a man he was. My heartfelt condolences to all of his family, my dear cousins.
