OBITUARY

Rienk Wietsma of Highland returned home to his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2021 at age 87. He was born in Gees, The Netherlands on October 17, 1933 to Lolke and Tine (Sijbrandij) Wietsma.

After emigrating to the United States, Rienk met and married the love of his life, Ada, in 1964. They ultimately settled in Wappingers Falls where they lovingly raised their family. He worked for the US Postal Service for 31 years and provided many years of faithful service to Immanuel Church, Wappingers Falls. Later in life, Rienk and his wife Ada attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rock Tavern.

Rienk was devoted to his wife of 56 years, Ada. He is survived by his children: Manuela Lindemulder, Pamela Cabrera (Harry), Eric Wietsma (Tracy) and Tom Wietsma (Meg). He was a beloved Grandpa and PopPop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nicholas and Rebecca Lindemulder; Natalie Cabrera; Zachary, Kyle, Matthew and Jack Wietsma; Olivia, Kate and Johann Wietsma; and Emma and Dylan Lindemulder. Rienk is also survived by his siblings: Anni Hoekstra (Richard), Hissy Van Brakel, Elsa Bos, Wilma Gerner, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Rienk was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Johann and Auguste Petershagen, his beloved son-in-law Cornelius Lindemulder, his siblings: Jacob Wietsma, Theo Wietsma, Aafke Wietsma, Boujke Van Balen; and brother-in-law Tom Van Brakel.

Rienk will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his unwavering kindness and the warmth of his smile. Rienk never failed to make all those around him feel welcomed and appreciated.

Calling hours will be held at Delehanty Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:00am at the funeral home, followed by burial at Wappingers Falls Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made in Rienk’s memory to Christ Health Care Ministry (Christhealthcareministry.org; 43 NY-17A Goshen, NY 10924).
