Robert E. Beahan

1933 - 2023

OBITUARY

Robert E. Beahan, 89, dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Castle Point VA Hospital after a short illness.

Dad was born in Wappingers Falls, NY, on October 29, 1933, the son of Jane C. Moshier and Raymond J. Beahan.

At the age of 22, dad was drafted into the army, stationed at Scoffield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii, where he received medical training, doing ambulance runs on the shores of Waikiki. He was a member of the 25th Infantry Lightning Division, Medical Battalion as part of the motor pool and was honorably discharged in 1958 as Private Specialist 3rd Class. Four months later on September 21, 1958, in Nativity Church, dad married his sweetheart, Catherine C. Reinhard, who predeceased him in 2014.

Dad worked at NY Trap Rock for 43 years repairing stone crushers and retired as a Mill Foreman in 1996. It was hard work and we were thankful he was able to come home without injury. Those who lost their lives on the job were remembered reverently by dad right up to his own death. He was a friend to those he worked with, cherishing those friendships well into his retirement.

Dad is survived by his six children Robert P. Beahan (Maureen) of Staten Island, Karen B. Doster (Tom) of Salt Point, Joseph M. Beahan (Cindy) of Staatsburg, Brian E. Beahan (Judy) of Poughkeepsie, Michael L. Beahan (Elaine) of Poughkeepsie, Christopher M. Beahan of Poughkeepsie, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren (one on the way), and several nieces and nephews. Family was very important to dad and many have adopted him as their dad or grandpa.

Dad was predeceased by his brothers Raymond Beahan, Donald Beahan, Thomas Beahan, and Dennis Beahan, and sister Jeanine Ahearn.

Dad was fortunate to have 24/7 care at home by his children and his aides Jennifer, Meryem, Elizabeth, and Gaga. Dad was like a father to his aides, they loved him deeply and we are grateful for their kindness to dad. The VA has been especially caring to dad and we will forever be grateful to Maria, Veronica, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Das, Dr. Shapley, Doreen, Kris, Noel, James, David, Sallie, Katie, Jennifer, and Janine; as well as Dr. Robinson, Dr. Krumholtz, and Vanessa.
